Tempe Sun Sounds is the home office for Sun Sounds of Arizona, located in the Rio Salado College Administration building on the fourth floor alongside sister stations, KJZZ and KBAQ. Sun Sounds of Arizona was founded in October 1979 as an outreach service of Rio Salado, originally serving the Phoenix metro area. Service to the southwestern part of the state began in 1985 with the Tucson station and Flagstaff became operational in 1995 serving the northern region of Arizona.
Sun Sounds of Arizona is Arizona’s twenty-four hour door to the world. Sun Sounds volunteers read and produce programs broadcast for people who are not able to read due to a visual, physical or learning disability. Through Sun Sounds Radio, listeners are able to ‘read’ from 265 local, state and national newspapers and magazines and commercial and entertainment publications. Depending on when you tune in, you might hear grocery store flyers or a magazine read aloud or you might hear the news in Spanish.
