Working for Better Access to Information

Earlier this month Executive Director Bill Pasco and Development Director Dave Noble attended the Consumer Electronics Show to meet with manufacturers and encourage the development of accessible appliances and other consumer electronics.

"We know that technology can help blind and otherwise print-disabled persons but manufacturers don't usually understand the needs of people with print-disabiling conditions.  They make touch screens or tiny LCD displays without regard to accessibility.  We had many opportunities to educate manufacturers at CES" Pasco said.  Bill was interviewed on this subject by the Canadian Broadcast channel AMI.

"We've been successful in motivating radio manufacturers to include accessibility controls for several years now" said Dave Noble.  "At this point, we are seeking community-minded manufacturers who want to make their products usable to people with vision loss or other print-disabling conditions."
